Almost Fall

Summer is coming to an end.  I am in the Lily Tomlin Art Show at FE Gallery as mentioned in my previous post.  I also have 3 coasters in the La Luz De Jesus Coaster Show-
I have a beautiful Frida painting in the Frida Khalo Art Show at Picture This Gallery-

Currently I am busy working on paintings for a Group Show at FE Gallery for February.

There are lots of interesting art events happening in California over the summer months.  I hope the Fall will be as inspiring.

New SFMoma

Yesterday, I was able to see the new SFMoma.  It is huge.  I am happy the museum is back.  I loved all of the Chuck Close paintings.  There were new modern art I had not seen there before and all the favorites from the permanent collection were left just as they were before closing.  The museum store had a wonderful selection of new art books and the prices were the same as Amazon.  I have included some picks of the amazing art.  You can see my art at www.skyesart.com

Been busy experimenting

I have been been busy experimenting with my big eyes flower nature nymph series.  I am trying to decide between normal big eyes versus manga big eyes.  Today I am feeling the manga eyes more.  They have a fun whimsy imaginative feel to them.  Here are some examples of my work;

Monday's Sketch

Each day I am starting with a sketch.  I think of it as a warm up movement.  Creating art is both a mental and physical process.  This is my sketch from yesterday.

New paintings at http://skyesart.com/

New paintings are being put up on my website on a weekly basis.  I am hoping to complete my current WIP by Thursday!😅
I don't want to rush the piece, and risk it not being the best it could be.  But my deadline for the gallery submission is Sunday....  Here is a WIP of it:
Wish me luck and happy painting!

Sketching everyday

Most days, as in 7 days a week I sketch. Usually, I do it in the evening.  But, this past week I started doing it every morning before attacking the paints.  One day, I was too eager to and skipped the morning sketc.  To make a long story shorter, I ended the day painting over 50% of the work I did that day. 😩

Lesson learned... I spend the first few hours o each painting day sketching for at least an hour or two.  Here are a few of the weekly sketches.
New features have been added to my website.  Check it out at www.skyesart.com

Gallery Submissions

I have been busy developing paintings for a gallery submission for the last few months.  My focus has been on big eyed flower fae.  These paintings still have my signature flowers, butterflies, color palette and line technique.

I was informed by an art collector that people find paintings of realistic people sometimes disturbing.  Especially if they don't know the person.  If an artist specializes in people it would be recommended to focus on a stylized people or develop characters.

This approach is more imaginative.  I took those words to heart and have been trying to do just that.

I still get flashes of realistic paintings of women.  I have these paintings sketched in my studio or floating in my head.  And they may resurface in the future.  But for the rest of January it is all about the fae.

'till next time,
